Fitts donated his new book on Wally Yonamine, 1994 Hall of Famer
Bob Fitts, author of "Remembering Japanese Baseball: An Oral History of the Game," published a new book, "Wally Yonamine: The Man Who Changed Japanese Baseball," from the University of Nebraska Press in 2008. He visited the Baseball Museum on November 11, 2008 and donated his new book to Hiroshi Satou, president of the BHFM (see photo). The donated book is now on public view at the Baseball Library.
After joining the Yomiuri Giants in 1951, the first post WWII foreign player went on to play 10 seasons with the Giants and two with the Chunichi Dragons before retiring after the 1962 season. Yonamine stayed in Japanese baseball, going on to coach or manage with six teams until he finally retired in 1988.
