Opening Dates: Saturday 29 Jun 2013 –

Focusing on the longstanding relationship between baseball in Japan and the O'Malley family, a special exhibition will be held at The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Tokyo. This year also marks the 110th Anniversary of the birth of Walter O'Malley (1903-1979), who owned the Dodgers and was inducted into the U.S. National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.

Fourteen artifacts are on loan from Peter O'Malley, President, Los Angeles Dodgers, from 1970-1998, which demonstrates more than half a century of friendly ties between the O'Malley family and Japanese baseball. For the first time, O'Malley is publicly exhibiting a porcelain hand-painted Noritake plate with Mt. Fuji in the background. Signed during the Dodgers' 1956 Goodwill Tour to Japan, this one-of-a-kind plate features 40 bold autographs of players and their traveling party. Eleven Hall of Fame members are on the plate, including 10 from the U.S. Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and one from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Japan.

Furthermore, various other items will be added from the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum collection, including a Jackie Robinson game-used bat, those relevant to the Dodgersf tours to Japan, and those related to Ike Ikuhara, a 2002 Japanese Baseball Hall of Famer who served an important role in baseball exchange between the two countries.

"We are honored and delighted that The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Japan has asked us for significant items to display in a special exhibit about my family's long-time friendship with baseball in Japan," said O'Malley. "Our family has enjoyed the many friends we have met through baseball in Japan since our first goodwill trip in 1956." The O'Malley family arranged for three Dodger Goodwill Tours to Japan – in 1956, 1966 and 1993.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ryozo Kato commented, "The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is pleased to hold a special exhibition which will give us an excellent opportunity to highlight the important role the O'Malley Family has played in promoting a warm and friendly relationship with the world of Japanese baseball. We are looking forward to welcoming many baseball fans as they visit this exhibition which is being made possible through the kind and special cooperation of Mr. Peter O'Malley and O'Malley-Seidler Partners."
