As a Carp player, he became the 7th player in NPB history to win a "triple-three" in 2000. After joining the Tigers in 2003, he contributed to 2 league pennants and was MVP in 2005. He played in every inning in 1,492 consecutive games played, which exceeded the MLB record, and was given the nickname "Iron Man."
