The first draft choice of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in 1982, he was Rookie of the Year with a 11-6 record. After suffering a shoulder injury, he came back in 1986 with four wins and 22 saves. In 1989, he won the Best Relief Pitcher award with 12 wins and 28 saves. The "Blazing Stopper" died of a brain tumor at age 32 in 1993.
