From 1978 he continued to notch 10 or more wins for 11 consecutive years. In 1986, he played an active part in leading the Hiroshima Toyo Carp to clinch the pennant by leading the league in wins and ERA. He won his second Sawamura Award. With his splendid command, he became the first 200-game winner with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp.
