After winning the batting title in 1981 with the Lotte Orions, he became the youngest player ever to win a Triple Crown in 1982. In 1985 and 1986, he won two more Triple Crowns, becoming the first player to win it three times. He later played for the Chunichi Dragons and twice led the CL in HR and RBI.
