In 1957, he led the All-Japan team to its first victory in the third Global World Series in Detroit. In his 16 years of his participation in the Intercity Baseball ournament, as player or player/manager, he led his Kumagai Gumi to three championships. After retirement, he contributed to amateur baseball by filling various important posts.
