Upon joining the Yomiuri Giants in 1966, he notched 13 straight wins and ended the season with 1.39 ERA , which won him the Rookie of the Year and Sawamura awards. With his fast and sharp breaking balls, he played a big part in 12 Giants C.L. pennant victories and 9 Japan Series championships.
