As manager of high school, university, and non-pro baseball teams, he produced many good players and leaders, and thus is known as "the leader of leaders." Among his feats are six victories in the Tokyo Big6 and the gold medal in the demonstration event at the L.A.Olympics in 1984, for which he was given the Best Manager Award.
