The rookie out of high school became the winning pitcher in the 1954 season opener,ending the year with a 20-12 record. The lefty was a mainstay of the Hankyu Braves in the 1950s and 1960s. Among his feats is nine consecutive strikeouts in a game. His career record includes 867 games, 2,945 SO and 254 wins.
