The top draft pick of the Tokyo Orions established his famous"broadax"pitching style in 1971. With his fast ball and forkball, he made a spectacular showing until he suffered from an elbow injury in 1982. He made a miraculous comeback, however, and
notched 10 wins or more 3 times.
